The “Terminator”

Jason had read about a place not too far from his home called Shelby’s Kitchen. They are famed for their dish called the “Terminator,” the reason we decided to go there. The challenge is to complete the dish by yourself, and then the meal is free.

As we were seated, however, we both saw the sign on the wall displaying the results of this challenge: “Won: 2; Lost: 474.” Here is a description of this dish:

  • 24″ pancake (about 3/4″ thick)
  • 4 eggs
  • 6 sausage patties
  • 4 pieces of toast
  • Home fries (a large serving)
  • Bacon (at least 1 lb)
  • “A liter syrup” – Jason’s recommendation
  • Price: $25

We decided to split one since neither of us have been training and it seemed like a daunting meal. This was a good choice. All of the pancake and potatoes really fill you up. The sausage patties were a bit greasy, and the bacon was very dry – cooked much more than either of us prefer.

We ended up eating everything except the 4 pieces of toast, 1 sausage patty, and a handful of bacon slices. One-manning this beast would be very impressive; we were both quite full and ready for a siesta after we had tag-teamed it.

We also saw on the menu a 25″ hot dog for $20. This would easily be a one person meal, but there is no reward for finishing it. Plus, the “terminator” is much more bang for the buck. It might be a nice thing to try at a different date, but I think we were both very satisfied with out choice today.
